Our new writing project, celebrating trans+ experiences. Supported by Arts Council England.
Transcribe is a writing project, providing paid writing and development time to four trans+ writers from Hampshire & surrounding regions.
Our writers were supported to develop a 10 - 15 minute piece of writing on trans+ experiences, to be performed as part of Trans History Week on 7th May 2026 at the John Hansard Gallery. Their work was also recorded and published in a limited print run anthology.
Each writer was offered their own dedicated experienced trans+ editor and mentor, including the fabulous Tabby Lamb and Ri Baroche.
They also had the opportunity to work with QueerAF to hone their writing and communication skills, and were supported to publish a think piece as part of their Queer Gaze series.
Trans Artist @carabiner.pansy was also commissioned to create a series of complementary images to go alongside the writers work
on March 23rd 2026 Beyond Reflections put out a call for Trans Writers and Artists to take part in the Transcribe Project, after carefully considering the many many applications we managed to narrow down it down to just four writers:
Nicola Beck
A performance poet who writes about inclusivity, humanity, and the importance of life. She is passionate about rights for all, whatever gender, species, or planet of origin
Vic Rodriguez
Primarily a theatre artist who trained in acting, Vic has since explored directing and writing. He loves drawing, photography, and needle felting.
Jared Mustafa-Holzapfel
Part-time PHD researcher, he is also an aspiring writer and visual artist, who writes about masculinity and the trans experience, whilst powerlifting on the side
Carmilla Williamson
Winner of the Poole Pride Slam Poetry Competition 2024, Camilla is a freelance writer and performance poet. She aims to use her writing to serve local communities.
Following on from the success of the Transcribe performances, Ri Baroche is hosting Pride Month Writing Workshops
